Little You - A Mother’s Day Memory

Donna Lee and Dale Reeves

Mother’s Day has come and gone. But it’s never too late to give credit where credit is due. Thank you Mom for the Godly example you are. You are truly a Proverbs 31 woman.

I treasure one story about you in particular.

Once upon a time in a little country church near Almena, Kansas, it was during Sunday service that one little lamb ambled away.

Sitting next to Grandma and Grandad, you caught your Granny’s eye on the other side of the church. Her familiar bonnet frames her face, and she motions with her hand for you to come sit beside her. Without hesitation you get up and walk down the aisle, small shoes making a big sound on the hard wood floor.

The preacher stops mid-sermon, staring as you come forward and round the front row. Non-plussed you look up at the man in black and continue where Granny is seated. She has a space saved beside her just for Little You.

Grandad’s blue eyes sparkle with laughter at his bold Little You. And Grandma, a country schoolteacher, is not approving of the sudden seat change.

The sight of Little You interrupting the sermon drew the attention of everyone in the small sanctuary. And some chuckles too.

Years later Little You walked down the church aisle again, with the same boldness and assurance. This time giving her life to Jesus.
