Follow the Leader

Jimmy exploring the local pond.

A seismic frog-sized belly flop created a beautiful sound effect, causing ripples of perfect circles around its port of entry. Jimmy’s floppy black ears pricked up, and his eyes scanned the otherwise placid pond. I wouldn’t have noticed otherwise, but it was comical to watch him process this sensory intel; and quite another to see God paint a splash on His natural canvas.

The sudden event caused Jimmy’s leash to slacken, but only for a moment.

This fun-sized rocket has a handsome black and white coat, dotted with cute black freckles. He often draws admirers on our walks, but Jimmy is very humble about his celebrity status. If they only knew how beautifully disguised his personality is.

The black mask on his face is a truer picture of his real self. Much like a bandit, Jimmy’s mode of operation is high speed. He can turn on the jets and go from pause to full power in no time. On the other hand, I’m more inclined to keep it in low gear.

Hence the perpetual back-and-forth tug on the leash.

Jimmy may be in front. But he is not leading the way.

Suddenly, quiet thoughts begin to flow. I consider; how many times have I insisted on my own way?

Choosing where to go.

Or fretted about the way.

Along the way.

I’m reminded of the verse, Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these, Luke 12:27 (NKJV).

Luke 12:24 (NKJV) says it this way, Consider the ravens, for they neither sow nor reap, which have neither storehouse nor barn; and God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds?

I think we can safely draw a conclusion here. One that tips toward choosing to surrender and to trust our Heavenly Father, and lean away from self-control.

When we release every care, every concern, into the capable hands of our Lord, it’s a demonstration of faith that He will fix what we give Him.

But not until we place it in His hands are we truly following The Leader.

Prophetic Word

Give unto Me.

Yield to Me.

Every care.

Every concern.

Everything that would put hesitancy in your step.

I have called you to walk by faith.

Faith is the confidence that I watch over My word to perform it.

So, rise up.

Lean on Me.

My rod and My staff shall comfort you.

And let us move forward in the day together.
